How I Managed to Pass the IELTS Exam
I never thought that the IELTS would be so nerve racking and challenging.
It was my dream to further my studies in a culinary school in Australia. My parents were supportive enough to encourage me to pursue my dreams though I knew I had to be away from them for a year or two. I already had my certification of enrollment from the academy I chose. Checking on the other requirements, I noticed an English language test which clearly specified an IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination with a band score of 7 as the score requirement. Seriously, I never had an idea what this test was so I logged online and read stuff about it.
Gathering information about the IELTS exam was pretty easy as blogs and websites offered a lot of information regarding the examination. I read passionately on these and finally got a picture on my mind how the exam works. An English language test – I was confident that my English skills were good enough. I studied in a private school and even took an English course when I was in the university. Yes, you could say that I was pretty confident. However, a friend of mine told me to attend classes on IELTS. I was hesitant and was doubtful if these classes she said were helpful or even needed. Honestly, I was in doubt, but I went online and found JRooz review center.
The center was easy to find as I was familiar with its location. Upon registering, I was given an option to choose between the Academic and the General Training. I chose the Academic as it was the one written on the requirements list. Furthermore, they asked me if I wanted an intensive program or the regular program. They explained it to me and I chose the latter. On my first day, I was given a diagnostic test. On that moment, I started to feel bad about myself for the questions were not easy and at the same time, I had a hard time creating my responses. The problem started to sink in.
Luckily, coaches were very eager to conduct training most especially on skill building. Some skills were really needed to be developed in other to make responses for the test. For example, we had this skimming and scanning done in reading and note taking on listening. What challenged me the most was the expressions used to make responses in speaking sound smart. Additionally, the exercises to be more confident in speaking helped a lot. Grammar exercises helped a lot in making my writing better and way more appropriate.
I realized I still had a lot to learn for the IELTS. Fortunately, I got my score on the first take. I was really happy and thankful to my coaches who never gave up on me. They made sure that candidates for the coming exam are given attention and are trained well for the test. Sincerely, without their help, I would not be here in Australia studying.
